"When this cohort graduates in 2012, this is what we hope has happened: they are going to be at or above the state average on their SAT or SAT. They will have participated in rigorous classes in their high schools and that their teachers have been trained to teach AP courses, and they know about rigor and they know what rigor is, and they have prepared their students to be successful in any of the choices that they have made. We are going to be looking at the number of graduates from high school and our goal is that the graduates will have increased. The number of students who are actually going to go to a postsecondary training of some sort whether it be a license or a certificate, community college or university. That they will have more students going to those, and that at some point, those students are going to come back and talk about the programming that they have had, the experiences they have had being a GEAR UP school, and talking to the students who are coming through that system and helping them to make the right choices and to prepare. It would just be a continuous cycle. It would never end, and that we'd all be helping each other to be successful and to be ready for the next step, because when you graduate from high school it's not the end, it's really the beginning."
