Brief Description of Program:

The Spring Woods High School GEAR UP program supports the defined cohort through high school graduation. Further extending the options available to these students are eight strong partners, including a degree-granting, open-enrollment, four-year university and a community college that is the second largest in the United States. Project planners have identified three overarching program priorities to raise the academic expectations and educational success of the student cohort while maximizing their opportunities to attain college entrance:

  1. student support and scaffolding;
  2. college and career support programming;
  3. professional development support and structure.

Partners:

Rice University, University of Houston Downtown, Houston Community College and others.

Additional Contributing Organizations:

Several collaborators contribute to our cohorts’ success – including, but not limited to, Hewlett Packard, The Texas Rock Gym, University of Texas Health Science Center - Houston and SBISD’s Spring Board Mentoring Program.
