Brief Description of Program:

To achieve its goal of increasing college readiness levels in students, the UTEP GEAR UP program includes such key components as engaging, tutoring, mentoring, rigorous courses, college preparation classes (AVID), transition events, promoting academic courses, and exposure to career fields unrepresented by minorities and females. UTEP's College of Engineering will also develop innovative engineering lessons to heighten student interest in math and a shadow program that will offer the opportunity (for the first time in El Paso) to give high school students UTEP course credit.
