College Awareness and Readiness Resources
College for All Texans, a project of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, assists students and families with information about planning, applying and paying for college.
College.gov, sponsored by the United States Department of Education (USDE), provides resources for multiple aspects of postsecondary planning. The website features a free college roadmap that students may customize and print.
The FAFSA4caster, sponsored by USDE, helps students and parents to plan early for postsecondary education by providing an estimate of elgibility for federal financial aid. The site also provides tips to make the college and financial aid process easier.
The TexasCollegeMoney project, provided by The University of Texas System, is a group of services designed to provide Texas high school juniors and their families with a realistic estimate of the financial aid they can expect to receive if they are admitted and enroll at any University of Texas System campus and help students transition from high school to college by facilitating personal contacts between participants and college financial aid and admissions professionals.
Agencies and Organizations
The Texas Education Agency (TEA) is the administrative unit for primary and secondary public education. Under the leadership of the commissioner of education, TEA provides leadership, guidance, and resources to help schools meet the educational needs of all students.
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board provides the Legislature advice and comprehensive planning capability for higher education, to coordinate the effective delivery of higher education, to administer programs efficiently, and to improve higher education for the people of Texas.
The USDE GEAR UP homepage provides information about GEAR UP across the nation. GEAR UP provides six-year grants to states and partnerships to provide services at high-poverty middle and high schools. GEAR UP grantees serve an entire cohort of students beginning no later than the seventh grade and follow the cohort through high school. GEAR UP funds are also used to provide college scholarships to low-income students.
The National Council for Community and Education Partnerships (NCCEP) seeks to develop and strengthen broad-based partnerships throughout the education continuum, from early childhood through postsecondary education.
The Texas High School Project (THSP) is a public-private partnership dedicated to ensuring that all Texas students graduate high school ready for success in college, career, and life. THSP initiatives include Early College High Schools, High School Redesign and Restructuring, New Schools, Education Leadership, and the Texas Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (T-STEM) Initiative.
