STAR Project
Part of the Texas state GEAR UP grant, the STAR project is a P-16 initiative designed to implement the project's goals and promote lasting change in six communities in the Texas Gulf Coast area. STAR districts include:
In combination with project partners, the STAR initiative provides services and support to ensure that students are academically prepared for higher education, graduate from high school and have access to higher education opportunities.
STAR uses an add-a-cohort model. Beginning with seventh-grade students in 2006-2007, the project will follow those students until their graduation from high school in 2012. While following this cohort, the project continues to provide services to each incoming seventh-grade class, resulting in a project that serves grades seven through twelve in 2012.
