Partnership Grant Projects

GEAR UP Austin

Austin Independent School District
Austin, Texas

The GEAR UP Austin project firmly believes in developing students’ college-readiness mindset as early as possible. They’re serving the class of 2024 from sixth grade through the summer after high school graduation. And their efforts will be amplified by partnerships with Austin Partners in Education, UT’s Institute for Public School Initiatives, Concordia University, Seedling Foundation, and St. Edward’s University.

Program Highlights

  • Taking up the fight against chronic absenteeism, one of GEAR UP Austin’s goals is to ensure that 90% of its cohort students have a 90% or higher attendance rate.
  • The project will be opening students’ eyes and minds through experiential learning opportunities like college tours, job shadows/site visits, or educational field trips.
  • The GEAR UP Austin team plans to leave their mark on their schools by helping to build sustainability through facilitating professional learning opportunities for teachers and campuses.
