Happily, we’re still a long way from android professors in college lecture halls. But advances in current smart technology and a more tech-savvy student body mean that the future is most certainly upon us. It may be robot-free (for now), but our current vision of it could see a phasing out of traditional education forms in favor of approaches that are more virtual and engaging.

Things like social media, e-books, SMS messaging, massive online open courses, and 3-D printing are already changing the face of the modern university mode of operation, and major advances in all these technologies and more are just around the corner.
