A Winning Combination

It's certainly no secret that one of the biggest adjustment periods for students is the transition from the halls of high school to the sprawling campus of a university. Gone are the comforts of home, the familiarity with teachers, and the daily routine they're used to. In their place is a new normal to adjust to with very little margin for error. There are fun and exciting times ahead for sure, but in order to hit the ground running, it’s best to dig in and be totally prepped for the heap of change about to happen. Fortunately, the folks at
East Texas GEAR UP for Success are providing a once-in-a-lifetime experience to prepare kids for the next step in their academic career.

In our continuing series “Texas GEAR UP in Action,” discover how the Investigations in Math and Science (iMAS) Academy and Discover College program are giving TXGU kids a serious jump-start to their future. Students spend a week at Stephen F. Austin University mastering STEM-based learning activities, as well as getting a firsthand look at what it’s like to live and learn on a college campus. And the end result? Pretty astounding. Kids leave with a renewed focus on their academics, their college aspirations, and their future in general. We think what they’re doing in East Texas is rather amazing, and after watching this video on the Toolbox page, you'll probably agree.
