3D: Reinventing a Computer Screen Near You

Big news for all future engineers! SpaceX’s Elon Musk, the inventor/millionaire who the Tony Stark character was based on in the Iron Man movies, is providing a glimpse into how advanced 3D sensor and visualization technologies are creating major opportunities for design and manufacturing engineers to kick their computer-aided-design work up to never-before-seen levels. (Hint: Keyboards are out, hands are way in.)

SpaceX uses the technology to build rockets, but the implications on the entire design and manufacturing fields are rather massive. It’s about moving beyond the model of creating 3D objects with limited 2D tools—making for a future where GEAR UP students working in the field someday will basically be using their brains in a totally different manner than today’s (or at least yesterday’s) engineers.

But don’t just take our word for it! You can watch the video from SpaceX right now and marvel for yourself...
